Persephone Update 1

We have our first Persephone Reading Week review! Nymeth read The Victorian Chaise-longue by Marghanita Laski in little over an hour this morning and you can read her thoughts here. I read this Persephone around a year ago but feel inspired to re-read it during the colder, creepier months that are approaching.

The end-paper is a 1950s curtain-fabric " printed with huge pink roses" and is evocative of Melanie's present period before she time-travels to Victorian times.

Happy reading, everyone!

oo-er. I'm right in the middle of the very same book and I'm torn between wanting to read the review and not wanting to spoil the surprises in the book. I'm not very good at willpower!

Apologies, Swati! If it helps any, Nymeth doesn't spoil anything but I'd read a little more just in case.

I'm planning to read this book tonight too!

Did everyone just pick the shortest one they could find? LOL!!

I'm not going to read her review until tomorrow - just in case.

No - I've got a really fat one on the go - Fidelity. And I really should sit down and read it!

Jackie, I've started off with a short one and have another lined up but I'm hoping to read those quickly enough that I can fit in longer ones later in the week.

Nymeth assures everyone that she didn't choose this one for the length but for my recommendation.

Verity, we really do need to read!

I was out of town for the weekend and couldn't resist starting the persephone reading week early. I finished reading Every Eye by Isobel English. Tremendous descriptions. I haven't reviewed it yet, though may before the week is out. Now which one? I've only got two persephones left which haven't been read...Miss Ranskill Comes Home and Lettice Delmer. Any preferences?

hjelliot, well done on the early start! I'm looking forward to the review. My preference is Miss Ranskill Comes Home, I'm desperate to read that!

I was leaning towards Miss Ranskill myself. I shall start it today! Though I must say I usually treat my persephones a little like dessert and hoard them, only doling them out in small quantities so I always have at least one on my shelf to read. Now look what you're making me do! Finishing off my persephones before the autumn order, whatever next?

Heather, I have hoarded my Persephones too which is why this week is so great for catching up! The new titles this Autumn guarantee an order for me so it will be novel to be able to read them more or less immediately and not have tons of my own to catch up on.
I can't wait to hear your thoughts on Miss Ranskill!

Thanks for the link, Claire! The length did make this one more appealing, I must confess ;) But my second one, Saplings, is almost 400 pages long. I'm about a hundred pages in and I absolutely love it so far. I picked it more or less at random, but I'm so glad I did.

Thanks for being so prompt with your review, Ana! I am ecstatic that you are enjoying Persephones and have become a convert :). I am really looking forward to Saplings.
