The first Persephone I read and reviewed this week was Flush by Virginia Woolf, which Danielle of Leaning Towards the Sun has also read and reviewed. The second title I read was A London Child of the 1870s and you can read my thoughts here and compare with Christy's opinion.
Danielle's photograph of her golden cocker spaniel, Tucker, reminded me that during the scene where Flush is unceremoniously shorn of his full coat (a symbol of his pedigree breeding) to rid him of an infestation of fleas, I thought of my parents' springer spaniel, Laddie. As a recent measure to assuage his suffering in the heat, Laddie had a drastic hair cut and is photographed below looking accusatory; I thought I would share.

I am so impressed with the way you are organising this week. Persephone should give you a medal (or at least a lot of free books!)
I should be an event organiser! That's my new career aspiration ;). If it makes me appear more human: I am exhausted! It's been worth it though, every second. I'm amazed that I have managed all of the posts along with a Persephone title every day, to tell the truth - if only I could apply this much enthusiasm to all areas of my life!
My springer spaniel Sophie is black and white and looks just like Laddie. She gets the same cut about twice a year so I've seen that face before.

lol, he does look a bit accusatory. Though not quite as much as a cat will when it's wet :P
Indeed, Ana! Dogs do the puppy dog eyes (funnily enough) well but nothing beats the felines for their steely stare and peremptory nose in the air.
Awww...what a cutie! We have to shave our Golden Retriever every summer because she gets these horrid hot spots that make her miserable:( We want to think she is grateful but we think she is slightly humiliated and misses her feathers (that's what we call her longest hairs) greatly.
Book Psmith, you would be able to fully imagine and appreciate the humiliation of Flush!
