A Gentle Reminder...

... that Persephone Reading Week begins a week today (August 24th)! Both Verity and myself are very excited and have a lot planned for you all. Have you been able to narrow down and set aside the Persephones you intend to read next week? Have you been able to resist reading them? I have struggled to narrow my potential reads down, I don't have a stack yet in case it tempts me, and have struggled despite the lack of a tempting pile with the desire to begin reading them anyway! I think that I have decided on my five (yes, I am being overly ambitious) and then I read something about another Persephone I have on the grey shelf and impulsively decide that I want to read that one instead and the elimination process resumes.

I see from Darlene's blog yesterday that people are beginning to prepare and some aren't ready yet. I am also now considering dressing in grey all of next week...

PS: Not sure about dressing in grey though... Silver accessories perhaps?

I have a LOT of grey in my wardrobe! Silver accessories would work though.

Shall we dress up in silver and grey on the Weds then?! I'll bring my camera so we can hopefully get some pics of us with some Persephone books, or at the least outside Foyles!

Sounds like a plan!

Oh I am excited about this and have just renewed all my books from the library as I suddenly realised they run out on the 22nd which would dfeat the object somewhat.

Paperback Reader said...

Simon, it would indeed defeat the purpose! I'm forever renewing library books.

I've only got three unread grey Persephones left (it must be time to buy more!) and as I said on Darlene's post I'm planning on reading 'The Closed Door and Other Stories' over the week. It will be good to have a book of short stories as I'll be away on holiday so I can dip in and out in between activities.

How fun that you and Verity are meeting up! I look forward to the photos!

Rachel, it's always time to buy more! I have too many unread ones... which is why I am having difficulty deciding between them all.
Short stories are a great idea seeing as you'll be away and I'm looking forward to your Whipple review once you're home!

I'm looking forward to meeting Verity especially as we're going to bookshops together!

I'm very excited about the Persephone week too! I've got three books to hand, two of my own and one that my friend has promised to loan me. I've also got a reservation at the library for one more Persephone, but I'm unsure if it will reach me in time.

This *almost* makes me want to change my vacation...

Verity, hee. I'll try to curb your spending...

Ana, it was a fabulous idea of Darlene's. I'm very much looking forward to it.

Swati, it sounds as if you're all set! I hope that last library book arrives in time.
As for reviewing (I saw your Q on Verity's blog): we'll make it clear on our launch posts but post on your blog and link on ours (and be entered into a prize draw).

JoAnn, I wish you were here but there's nothing stopping you indulging in a Persephone whilst on vacation!

I can't wait to read about your meeting and I second that I wish JoAnn could be with us. I have one gray shirt but there is absolutely no guarantee it will be clean by then, although I have vowed to have all the laundry and cleaning done before the challenge begins. Very excited especially now that I know the challenge is one week away instead of one month:)

I don't think I could wait another month, Book Psmith!

Now dressing in gray as part of the process sounds really, really fun! Makes me want to do a 'dress in black' week as part of the R.I.P. Challenge this year!

Paperback Reader said...

Carl, you should definitely do that!

Will it be possible to spot Persephone Reading Week challenge members by their clothing?! I honestly don't own anything grey apart from one work skirt, and a grey denim skirt that is far too big! My boyfriend owns several grey t-shirts so I suppose I could sleep in one of those...I'll spare you pictures.

I'm definitely wearing grey, too! Maybe not everyday, but for most of the week.. so fun!

JoAnn.. yes, why don't you join even on vacation? :D

Paperback Reader said...

I want a grey cat so I can name her Persephone...

verity said...

Might that be going a little too far Claire?!

Paperback Reader said...

No :o.

I've chosen my five! Except they turned out to be six. I'll reveal my choices soon...

Paperback Reader said...

Hah, Simon! My problem has definitely been narrowing them down so I think I'll choose as and when... I'm looking forward to the big reveal!

I have my two ready! I don't think I have much grey in my wardrobe though!

It's okay, Jackie; it seems I'm the only one with a lot of grey in my wardrobe! Glad you have your two prepared; looking forward to hearing what you think, especially on There Were No Windows.
