So...

... what do you think this pile of seemingly disparate books have in common with one another?
The person who guesses correctly will win a little something.

I would suggest they were all eagerly anticipated sequals that readers had to wait years for. However, the two Sarah Waters books (at least) would seem to knock down that theory.

Greetings from one of those readers who has not yet commented on your blog. I don't have a blog of my own, though you may have seen my comments elsewhere in the blogosphere.

Sorry I meant "sequels". There's really no excuse for that, given that the word appeared in your photo!

My guess is that they are your favorite books read in 2009. Only possible thing I can come up with.

I want to say they all feature ghosts or a cemetery, or twins... hahahha can you tell I am clutching at straws!!!

All being/been filmed for television dramas?

They're all books you got for free courtesy of the various publishers???

Ghosts and cemetaries perhaps.

Good tries! Nobody has guessed correctly yet although Kim is the closest (only one is courtesy of the publisher). Clue: it's a connection that you wouldn't know from the books themselves and may be something you picked up reading a couple of my previous posts.

Are they all signed copies?

Rachel (Book Snob) said...

You've met the authors of each of them? And got the books signed?!

They're all freaking amazing books :) I'm not playing along but that's one heck of a pile!!! It looks like something I'd pull off of my shelves!

They look really good together whatever the aim of it is. :)

I like Rachel's idea that you've met or attended an event with each author present.

I have no idea, apart from suggesting that maybe you follow the authors on twitter.

I LOVE the Audrey Kurkov Penguin books though!

I've figured it out by looking at your Twitter, so I guess it's not fair of me to guess. There are a couple of correct answers!

As Verity has pointed out (I realised I had given an unfair advantage on twitter -unintentionally- a while afterwards!) there are a couple of correct answers now, although I agree with Chris's answer too :). They are all signed copies! I haven't met/attended event of them all though - the Kurkov and Fforde were both picked up in a bookshop pre-signed, although I do intend to meet Jasper Fforde at some point to have my other books signed.

Geraldine, as you were the first to guess correctly (and the only one to have it strictly correct), email me your address and I'll pop a little something in the post to you (regrettably not a signed copy!)

I looked forward to checking in this morning to find out the answer, well done Geraldine!

Picks self up off floor. What a lovely surprise to find that I have guessed correctly.

Darlene, happy to have kept you in suspense!

Geraldine, I will reply to your email later today and will be posting something out this week.

Thanks, Marie!

I know the answer is not "they are all awesome", but I'm going to go ahead and say it anyway :P

(I've yet to read Fforde, actually, but I expect to love him when I do.)

Paperback Reader said...

Ana, they are all signed (but also awesome).

I have a feeling that you will love Fforde.

Had it not been for Her Fearful Symmetry, I would've said books on my wishlist.

Alas, the world doesn't revolve around me :)

Looks like a good bunch of signed copies though.

anothercookie, good choices for your wishlist! I've read them all except for Penguin Lost (I enjoyed Death and the Penguin though) and they are all great books.

I'm not really sure but I'm ecstatic that you like Jasper Fforde too!!

Paperback Reader said...

Mae, they're all signed copies. I love Jasper Fforde and very excited about his new book out in a few weeks!
