Teaser Tuesdays

Quote a couple of spoiler-free sentences from the book you’re reading to tempt others.

"The coming - or return - of the fairytale opened some trapdoor in her imagination. Her writing became compulsive, fluent and daring."
The Children's Book by A.S. Byatt p. 34

This is a wonderful teaser. Love the poetic style of it.

That's a beautiful pair of sentences. I haven't really got on with AS Byatt before, but I should give her another go.

guatami, thank you; the book is poetically and beautifully written.

Verity, the section those sentences are from is great; the beauty of these sentences is juxtaposed against the starkness of surrounding lines. I will quote in full when I review it.

I haven't got on with AS Byatt before either but I am enjoying this so far; it's certainly beautifully written.

I have requested this book from my local library. I think there are 6 people ahead of me, and I am very excited to start reading it.

GREAT teaser!

Thanks, Molly! It took a while for my request to come around in the library too but I'm glad to finally have it (especially before the Booker winner is announced).

I have indeed, Simon! I'm taking it slowly but so far enjoying the writing...

Oh! I have been teased sufficiently. I suppose I'll get in line at the library :)

Happy to oblige, Danielle!

Love it! I hope my library owns it. I also want to read A.S. Byatt's tiny book of fairy tales. I didn't know about this book.

I'm still waiting for my hold to come up at the library for this one. It's just as well as I'll probably need more than two weeks to get through it, it's a book to take your time with. Lovely sentences Claire!

Hi Tea, thanks for commenting. This is a relatively new Byatt title. I've read The Little Black Book of Fairy Tales and a couple of the stories were very good.

Darlene, it is definitely a book to tale one's time with. The writing is beautiful and these sentences are two of many.

We are reading in tandem! I am very interested to hear (or see) your thoughts on this, and I wonder whether we will agree!

I am pleased with the synchronicity of our reading, Rachel, and that we both eventually began reading it at the same time! Comparing notes will be fun.
