Persephone and cake

I thought I would take this chance to update you with a latecomer to the festivities. Rachel has written a fabulous post that resonates completely with me and succinctly explains why I love Persephone Books. I take the time to appreciate the small things in life and the small publishers. I also recognise "the pleasure of eating a freshly made cake" but, as Bloomsbury Bell points out in the comments, there is nothing more wonderful than reading a Persephone along with tea and cake. I said likewise here and I am beginning to think that it is the the only true way to enjoy a Persephone, a rich and sheer indulgence that is also one of the best comforts.

As a thank you for the success of Persephone Reading Week, Nicola Beauman has invited Verity and I to the shop for cakes from here. Cake and books are two of my favourite things and I can't think of a better or lovelier way to celebrate.

Nooooooooooo! Don't tell me about cake shops. I have a "thing" about cakes that rivals my love of books.

Have you ever been to Konditor & Cook?? They make swoon-delicious cakes. Expensive but worth it for a special treat.

Kim, I have had some lovely cakes in London, none of which I will tell you about... I haven't been to Konditor & Cook, however.

Ana, yes, cake at Persephone! I couldn't think of anything more delightful. I'm hoping that we can both work it into our schedules SOON!

Rachel's post was so beautifully written wasn't it. And just how lucky are you and Verity! Bea's of Bloomsbury was on my itinerary for London but I wasn't able to make it there. The scones at Patisserie-Valerie stole my heart and I kept going back there:) Please share every detail when you've both been to your get-together with Nicola!

Have a lovely time with Verity! I just know you're going to report back with more books! Lol.

Book Psmith, I am sure it will be heavenly :).

Darlene, it was and so concise.
I actually hadn't heard of Bea's of Bloomsbury but now I'm sure that our reports will be of even more interest to you! I am addicted to the macaroons from Paul's.

Claire, I hope we can schedule in soon and of course there will be books! Hee. I am very excited.

What a lovely surprise to find myself the subject of your post this evening! I am very flattered and you are too kind. I am so glad you share my sentiments, especially on the cake front. I am sensing another bash at Simon's chocolate orange cake is in order tomorrow night and then I shall have freshly made cake and a Persephone to read!

How lucky that you get to go to tea there! I have seen that shop many a time and been too afraid to go in in case I couldn't afford a cake...I bet you and Verity will thoroughly enjoy yourselves and come away with Persephone treats! Lucky things! Though you do deserve it for organising the Reading Week and giving everyone such fun!

Oh that cake shop! Did you see they do afternoon teas for 8 pounds?
Why why why am I standed here on the other side of the world? Oh woe.

Have a lovely time at Persephone Books and eat a cake for me!

Rachel, your post deserved it. Good luck with Simon's chocolate orange cake!

I'm very much looking forward to the Persephone visit and I am sure it will involve some book shopping too! I can't resist the lure of those dove-grey books.

Cristina, thank you. I'm sure we shall.

Merenia, thank you. We'll have some cake for you all! I didn't notice the afternoon tea but I may have to indulge in that some time soon.

Tea, cake and a good book - there really is nothing better!

I didn't get a chance to participate in your Persephone Week this time but I do hope you'll be hosting it again as I'd love to join in next time around.

tanabata, nothing at all!

We'd love to have you participate next time around; we had so much fun and great response that we are certain to host it again.
