A Literary Life

Something fun and mildly absorbing today; I have seen this on a number of people's blogs over the last few days and thought I would join in.

Using only books you have read this year (2009), answer these questions. Try not to repeat a book title. It's a lot harder than you think!

Describe yourself: Reading Like a Writer (Francine Prose)

How do you feel: Something Childish But Very Natural (Katherine Mansfield)

Describe where you currently live: Watching the English (Kate Fox)

If you could go anywhere, where would you go: Brooklyn (ColmTóibín)

Your favorite form of transportation: The Light Fantastic (Terry Pratchett)

Your best friend is: First Love (Ivan Turgenev)

You and your friends are: Fragile Things (Neil Gaiman)

What's the weather like: Summertime (J. M. Coetzee)

You fear: Fahrenheit 451 (Ray Bradbury)

What is the best advice you have to give: The Lost Art of Keeping Secrets (Eva Rice)

Thought for the day: Loitering With Intent (Muriel Spark)

How I would like to die: If I Stay (Gayle Forman)

My soul's present condition: What I Was (Meg Rosoff)

Good list! Especially liked your advice :P

That's great! I'm going to attempt doing it as well!

I like the "Something Childish But Very Natural" :)

Thank you, both :). I quite like those answers myself although my advice was very nearly Some Prefer Nettles but I decided to be optimistic!

That's a great post. I'm going to give it a go...I'm sure it's not that easy!

Not that easy, Swati; some are quite difficult (like the preferred mode of transport).

Oh, what fun! I love all your answers - I must have a go at it myself sometime.

Sophie, you should! It was enjoyable and some titles lend themselves to becoming very funny answers.

I fear Fahrenheit 451 as well! This was such fun to play with wasn't it.

I like your advice, and almost put Brooklyn for a place I want to go, too...but Austenland proved irresistible!

Love the title Something Childish But Very Natural. Hoping to read some Katherine Mansfield soon, with Persephone! Speaking of Persephone, I ordered Mariana today, lol. Not at the top of my list but I needed a D author for my A to Z challenge, and why not a Persephone, right? :)

Darlene, it's the greatest fear! It was such fun.

JoAnn, Austenland would be irresistible!

Claire, I love Katherine Mansfield. I'm reading her Persephone Journal just now and I do intend picking up The Montana Stories at some point even though I have her collected stories.
And why not a Persephone, indeed?! I desperately want to read Mariana but I'm thinking perhaps of saving it to read over Christmas; The Shuttle was a great read last festive period.

Oh I love it. I might have to do this one later on :) Not sure about 'what's the weather like' answer though it's gone a bit not summertime-ey all of a sudden, but good pick considering the limits of the game!

Fun idea! I will have to try this though it looks kind of difficult.

Polly, to be fair, I wrote this on Sunday when we had that lovely afternoon of sunshine but now the weather is decidedly autumnal (or "Something Rotten" as Kals put it in her answers).

Hi Stephanie, thanks for commenting. Some of them are a little more difficult than other but I suppose it depends entirely on what you've been reading this year!

Claire, what sort of mood does The Shuttle have? I've never read Hodgson Burnett. I know. My sister loved The Secret Garden to bits when we were young but I just never picked it up.

Claire, you haven't read Hodgson Burnett? :o The Secret Garden is my all-time favourite children's classic and I am also very attached to A Little Princess and Little Lord Fauntleroy.

The Shuttle is intense, melodramatic, and gripping. I've only recently discovered that the Persephone edition is abridged and I'm curious to what they cut; I never thought it was lacking anything and at over 500 pages it is still a tome.

I stole this meme. :-) I was great fun but really difficult. Gave me a tinge of regret re-reading those Harry Potters since they don't really make adequate responses!

Mae, it's fun, but definitely not as easy as it seems. Harry Potter is definitely not conducive to answers but I don't regret the rereads!
