Recent Arrivals

Some very nice people at Vintage Books (Random House) sent me copies of their forthcoming Vintage Bookers, to be published next month. Aren't they pretty? The copies of Possession and How Late it Was, How Late are the older editions due to availability but I'm not complaining as this will make my Man Booker project all the easier. First up is Disgrace by J. M. Coetzee (I can return my library copy - hurray!) and then after that I'm not sure...

Oh, they are gorgeous! I especially love the covers of Midnight's Children and The Famished Road - two wonderful books, too!

Thanks everyone :).

I'm sorry to make you all envious but book envy is the best kind!

The books are very well published - what you can't make out from the photographs is that some of the covers look as if they are ruled notepaper, which makes a nice touch.

I am currently halfway through Disgrace and really enjoying it.

Ahh.. I'm so jealous! (Even though I've read all but one of those). Happy happy reading, I'm sure it's more fun now with those gorgeous covers. :D

Claire, I would still covet them even if I had them all (as it was I owned two of them and had read a further one).

Isn't it funny how a pretty book will make us more inclined to read it sometimes? I practically fell into my copy of Disgrace once I had it in my hands, even though I've had a library copy for a couple of weeks.

I do, I do still covet them! Would like to swap all my copies for all those, ha ha. The new Disgrace is way better than the old one. Well, all of them are. Covers give off a mood that determine how we receive them. For example, The Gathering's old cover looked really depressing, but that one doesn't. It's love-ly. I would read it in an instant!

I agree that covers do influence our perception of the book. The Gathering cover certainly doesn't reflect the bleakness of the book!

Jodie, they are quite well priced if you decide you really do want one! I like them lots.

Oh you got them too - hoorah they are delightful arent they and so easy to carry around! I am going to try The Gathering first and then take it from there!
