Quote of the Week

Earlier this week, Simon S of Savidge Reads described Persephone Books as "the Cath Kidston of the book world", which filled me with utter delight as never a truer thing was said. To anyone outside the UK, Cath Kidston is a designer who uses classic style prints for the discerning home and individual (the pattern on her cushions above wonderfully complement the end-paper photographed). I loved this quote so much and I think that Simon deserves recognition for it. Nobody was tempted by my Miss Pettigrew Lives for a Day DVD competition and I think that calls for Simon to be rewarded instead. So, Simon, would you like a copy of the DVD or the book (and if the book, with the Classic cover or the original dove-grey)?

Congratulations!

I do love that quote in ref to Kath Kidston and Persephone.

It has been a great week of Persephone reading. Thank you both Clare and Verity for hosting the challenge.

I always feel I'm coming in a little late in the States, being five hours behind. Of course it means that more than half the world has posted something today ready to read.

I finished my last post A London Girl of The 1870's, by M. Vivien Hughes, lots of photos and visit Bumpus Book Shop, what a gem.

A beautiful photograph! I love how those cushions match the endpapers perfectly. So cheering and stylish.

Congratulations, Simon!

Christy, the time difference always makes it interesting but you aren't alone over there, with some other Persephone Reading Week participants hailing from across the pond also (it was about half and have, I think). I enjoyed waking up and catching up with the posts I'd missed during the night too.

I'm off to read your last post now! Thank you for taking part and being so enthusiastic. I especially love your new banner.

Thank you, Cristina! I'm very pleased with how the photograph turned out (my boyfriend took it for me) and I thought that the cushions and endpapers were a perfect match!

Simon already has the movie but is now looking forward to a copy of the book, which he has been wanting to read :).

I smiled at the quote as well, it was a superb choice of words. I bought a Cath Kidston bag from the Marylebone shop and since nobody around here has one I could have sold it several times since May.

I don't know how you manage to choose between your Cath Kidston and your Persephone bag, Darlene!

Congratulations, Simon! I didn't know who Cath Kidston was until now. I only know Rachel Ashwell.. lol. Love her Shabby Chic stuff.

Paperback Reader, I use both:) My books and snack for work go in my Persephone bag and my wallet, brush, lippy, gum...the kitchen sink, go into my CK bag. Voila!

Claire, I'll need to google Rachel Ashwell.

Darlene, I love it! I use my little brown bag from Bloomingdale's for lunch :).

Getting bqck to the competition regarding the DVD...

I just want to say a gigantic thank you Paperback Reader and B Files for such an excellent week, and also to let you know that for my part the non-participation in some of the groovy competitions was truly not out of lack of interest, but lack of time. Just wanted to emphasise that so you would not think the competition was a failure - to the contrary. Just a case of so many good things in a short space of time. I think there was enough 'fodder' to last 2-4 weeks!
Thats my only suggestion. Otherwise it has been superb, and no doubt a supreme effort for you both, which is pretty awesome given this is purely voluntary.
A big thank you.

Thank you, Merenia; that's good to know. We certainly packed a lot in this week and it was a lot of fun.
