Happy New Year!

HAPPY NEW YEAR!
Here's to a wonderful 2010 full of wonderful books.

At the time of scheduling this post I am looking forward to a lovely quiet Hogmanay (New Year's Eve) with my boyfriend involving pizza, wine and DVDs. We are travelling back to London at the end of the week and will be enjoying our last few days at home. I also have a New Year's tradition, which I will hopefully have completed by the time you are reading this. Before "the bells", I like to have finished the book that I am currently reading and, at the time of writing, I am almost finished a novella so imagine I will be picking up another one before the year is out. I like to bring in the new year with a fresh start and that includes my book. A couple of years ago my boyfriend and I celebrated at a very fancy hotel and even then I finished my book -The Way the Crow Flies by Ann-Marie MacDonald- in a bubble bath in a marble bath. Do you have any bookish traditions at New Year?

Happy New Year! :)

I always read something inspirational on New Year's eve. This year it was M.J.Akbar's biography of Nehru :)

I have the same tradition. Read like a madwoman yesterday to finish The Guermantes Way so that today, the first day of the new year, could be a reading fresh start. Love that feeling. Happy New Year to you and yours!

Happy New Year to You, Claire!

Not a tradition but certainly a feeling. That first book in a new year just has to be something a bit special.

Happy New Year! I love your reading tradition. I am carrying my reading material over from 2009 as am making my way through War and Peace - I shall consider it one of the achievements of 2010 when I finish it!

Happy New Year! I was the opposite of you...I left a few pages of my book to finish this morning....that way I didn't have to re-tally the stats for 2009. :-D

I am very much like you and like to have my current book finished by the time the year comes to an end - but unfortunately I didn't quite make it this time! Oh well - there is always next year!

Happy New Year! I do the same and try to wrap up my read before the new year but this time I am quitting the book instead since I can't get into it. Happy reading in 2010!

Happy New Year! That's pretty impressive : finishing a book in a bubble bath - for me, it's the perfect way to unwind.

I like starting the new year with a new book as well. Made it a point to finish The Brief Wondrous Life of Oscar Wao yesterday - granted it was finished after the clock hit midnight, but, when I woke up today, I had a new book at hand!

Thanks for the New Year wishes, everyone! I'm glad to hear that some of you share my tradition and others have your own; it's great that we bring in new year with new and special and momentous books.

Kim, thanks for commenting and for the award!
